Is this test for you?
If suspect you might have ingested food or liquid that was contaminated by faeces you should be tested for Hepatitis A immediately. Most hepatitis cases are found in countries where there is poor sanitation. There is also an increased risk of hepatitis A for men who have sex with men and those who inject drugs. If you suspect that you might have been exposed to the virus, it is important to take a test.
Experts Opinion on Hep A Tests
"This is a test to check for a Hepatitis infection and determine whether it’s acute or chronic. This will give you a picture of whether you need immediate treatment or if you’ve been exposed to hepatitis in the past."

Frequently Asked Questions
There are several blood tests that can be used to diagnose hepatitis. The most common are the hepatitis A virus antibody test, the hepatitis B surface antigen test, and the hepatitis C virus antibody test. A positive result on any of these tests indicates that you have been infected with the corresponding virus at some point in your life.
In rare cases, hepatitis A can lead to liver failure and death. However, most people who contract the virus recover fully without any lasting liver damage.
You will receive a free return label for sending your health test samples back to our lab for analysis. We will also provide clear instructions via email with return information for your sample.
If there are requirements for fasting or limited alcohol intake before a blood test, then we will send personalised instructions to you via email once an order has been placed. However, the majority of tests can be taken without fasting.
Results are usually processed within 2 – 3 working days. If a sample is sent over the weekend (which we do not recommend), you will receive your results within 2 – 3 days from Monday. Once your results and personalised report is ready to view, you will receive a notification via email to log in to the Welzo online platform.
Some people should get a hepatitis A blood test as part of routine medical care, such as:
People with certain risk factors for hepatitis A, such as those who have chronic liver disease or are receiving treatment for clotting disorders,
People who have been exposed to the virus, such as through contact with someone who has hepatitis A or through contaminated food or water,
People who are planning to travel to countries where hepatitis A is common,
Your doctor may also recommend a blood test if you have symptoms of hepatitis A, such as fatigue, abdominal pain, and yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice).
Hepatitis A is usually spread when an infected person's stool (poop) contaminates food or water. This can happen when:
- An infected person does not wash their hands after going to the bathroom and then prepares food for others
- Contaminated food is eaten
- Water contaminated with the virus is consumed
Hepatitis A can also be spread through close contact with an infected person, such as:
- Sharing utensils or drinking glasses
- Having anal or vaginal sex with an infected person
- Living in the same household with an infected person
